Designed in collaboration with Intel® and aimed squarely at those with powerful gaming PCs, The Laboratory is a Skaven-themed Custom Battle playground. The Laboratory’s numerous sliders allow multiple game variables to be tweaked, pushing battles in new and ridiculous directions. Players can massively ramp-up unit sizes, remove the bounds of gravity, and increase impact force tenfold to create scenes of pure chaos.

With sixteen different settings to tinker with, players can even save their best combinations of tweaks to use again or share with friends.why. IMO yes, they are worth a few campaigns. I'll make a summary about what features they have and how they play so you can see if there is any deal breaker for you.The mini-campaign is very bland. The map is 'a zoomed in campaign part of the empire' so you are basically fighting only empire all the time, so it gets really tiring fighting the same army compositions all the time.

The lore bits in the campaign are nothing special and there aren't, to my knowledge, any special events/mechanics for this campaign. On the grand campaign however this horde really shines. All of the Beastmen mechanics either in the campaign or in battle are all about ambushing and looting. IMO this leads to a refreshing campaign the vibe is attacking the weakest part of the enemy empires when they least expect and ambushing they bring their strong armies.Campaignwise the beastmen have 3 major mechanics:1) Beastmen armies stances are very unique. Their default stance makes their armies invisible to the enemy unless you get too close to settlements/heroes/armies and if you attack in this stance you have a high probablity of getting an ambush battle. Even their camp stance is sneaky so you can replesnish without the AI knowing where you are.2) Fightiness mechanic from the greenskins.

Mortal

You know the drill get the fightiness to 80 and get a free army. This free breyherd is normally not very strong, specially compared to late game waaghs, but it is normally enough to make the autoresolve much bigger for your side.3) The moon mechanic. What is this you ask? Every few turns ( i think it is 8 but i might be remembering wrong) you get a full moon which makes an event that has 4 choices. These choices are all very interesting; Ranging from heavily increasing your melee attack, reducing your recruitment cost or may favorite an increase in 25-50% in replenishent. I kinda like the WE mini-campaign because of the beautiful design of the map.

I also liked morghur being imortal, it was fun having to fulfill objectives to win instead of the normal 'conquer everything'. It was also fun playing against the WE since in the campaign it is generally not worth doing it.It needs to be said that warhammer 1 mini-campaigns are so much 'worse' then atilla ones. I don't get how CA could make such weird DLC for atilla while making some bland campaigns for warhammer, i was expecting the other way.

The January update will be more extensive, affecting a number of battle and campaign systems, and is therefore taking time to thoroughly test. It includes, but is not limited to: Campaign balance changes to reduce Dwarf domination in Mortal Empires; selective changes to combat behaviours to reduce order-dropping in battle; new innate Traits for many Old World Legendary Lords; a raft of new technologies and Legendary Lord skills for Bretonnia; and multiple new buildings for a range of settlements. This was surprising to me. I was not expecting CA to go 'update' the old world content some more. I was expecting them to put more focus on the new factions instead. I was thinking CA would focus on Tomb kings and lord packs at the 'beginning' of 2018 and once it was done then they would focus on a new minor faction + minor revamping old factions.I want more content to the new factions; lizardmen 'need' a skink subfaction, skaven 'need' more starting positions and a 'ranged' subfaction, High elves 'need' some 'crazy' units and dark elves need a new starting position.I don't know if that is possible in the lore, if it isn't I hope CA bends the lore a bit to add that. Skarsnik, wurzag and isabella change the way their faction is played; I'd be up for some of that for the new factions.Btw what do you guys think of the CA policy of no DLC for DLC?

I wouldn't mind paying for new units/RoR/lord packs for DLC factions, for example I'd enjoy a lord pack that added new stuff to both beastman and WE. I'd very much welcome DLC for DLC.

Bundle them with the original DLC, reduce the price for people who already own it. They might sell worse than new factions, though, might not be worth the effortthe LM are missing variations of dinos already in the game, the Skaven lack basically all their many ranged units, HE get magic archers, a flying chariot with built-in spearthrower (that thing is just weird), chariot drawn by lions, more skirmisher archers/melee specialists, the DE get a really awesome medusa model, medusa shrine chariot, a hydra variant, a unit of magic-using warlocks on horses similar to the sisters of thorns. I imagine the archers variant will be for when 'normal' archers just aren't good enough. I'm dying to see how these units move.

I feel that in TW2 CA captured the animations much better then with TW1 specially on 'subtle' movements like bracing and charging. It is particular apparent in the elves where one would assume that CA would re-use every animation possible. While many animations are shared, each faction as subtle movements that (try to) show their faction personality.

I wish they appilied this quality to empire/bretonnia infantry and norsca/chaos/greenskins/beastmen monsters (All giants and trolls feel exactly the same). I imagine the archers variant will be for when 'normal' archers just aren't good enough. I'm dying to see how these units move.

Now i'm expecting Nagash to appear in the next mummy movieTry to finish the thesis first. It was a headache for me and i completed it 1 week or so before the deadline.

With warhammer 2 being without new content until (late) January, why not focus on your thesis for now then play WH2 when the new faction/patch arrive?I know it is harder to do then write it. When I first read your answer I was confused but after reading my comment I understand where you are coming from.

I guess this is what happens when I'm sad irl, I just screw up my comprehension. On my previous post I meant that I wished CA would revamp animations for similar units in tw1 like they did to tw2. For example while the GS giant is equal animation wise to the chaos giant the dark elves spears have slightly different animations to their high elves spears. Another example chaos trolls and gs trolls are exactly the same while kroxigors and rat ogres have wildly different animations. In short I completely agree with you that the minotaurs have excellent animations, just like the cygor has some good ones.

I just wish the beastmen giant had a couple of unique animations to make me feel like it is a chaos corrupted giant; I like the skin but after playing 100s of hours it just feels' weird' to have 0 difference between 2 giants but have 2 spearmen of the ' same species' feel different.I hope my previous comment makes more sense now.the carnasour throwing a hellpit was one of the gyf that I choose for the OT. It is such an unexpected animation, it blow me away when I saw it the first time. Huge monster versus huge monster animations are just amazing across the board. That said I am still mad when malekith's dragon mount body slamed grimloq. I was winning the battle, the nerve of that bastard. If i remember correctly:- beastmen and WE took 2 or 3 weeks to release. They were announced at the beginning of a month then released at the end.- Norsca on the other hand was like 6 weeks or more.- I don't remember brettonia.Speculation:Knowing that CA updated the game on the 14th of december and that CA normally 'doesn't work' on the last week of december I'd say that the DLC would be releasing on the 2nd week of January.Hopefully i'm wrong and they release the DLC on the last week of december so i can play it during my holidays.

The deserts North of the Clan Mors/Last Defenders are where Tomb Kings are primarily located, although it'll be pretty crowded if all 4 lords start there. Tomb Kings seem pretty region-specific so I dunno how they would spread them all out in the Vortex campaign. That abject wasteland on the Western coast of the Dark Elf lands seems like a decent spot for one of them, as does the desert in the bottom right near Clan Pestilens, but beyond that I'm drawing a blank. And I think Lahmia is VCs? IIRC I asked about it (maybe even more than once!) and that was the answer.

Unless it's occupied Lahmia, I suppose.

The add-on was developed by the creators of the original, i.e. Creative Assemble. The Mortal Empires DLC is offered exclusively to the owners of the first two games in the series, as it introduces the third game mode, which is a joint campaign. The add-on joins the grand campaigns from both the first Total War: Warhammer and its sequel, but it does not do it by simply combining the two maps – the campaign is set in the Old World with some of the most essential territories added, namely, Ulthuan, Naggaroth, Southlands and Lustria. The area consists of the total of 295 settlements controlled by 117 playable and non-playable factions. It is also worth noting that Total War: Warhammer – Mortal Empires does not bring any important changes to gameplay mechanics.

Gameplay still consists of two phases – in the first one you manage your nation on a strategic world map, but whenever there is a clash between two armies you get to take part in a huge battle of thousands of units fought in real time. Nevertheless, the expansion includes all the innovations and improvements brought forth by Total War: Warhammer II. Besides, every other DLC and “free-LC” is also available in the Mortal Empires mode, thus further expanding the joint campaign map.
